Christmas: Being Blessing
Numbers 6:23-25 (Solemnity of Mary Mother of God)

This is how you shall bless the Israelites.

Say to them:

The LORD bless you and keep you!

The LORD let his face shine upon you and be gracious to you!

The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace!

Num 6:23-25

What better way to keep Christmas than to count our blessings, and to try to be blessing for those around us!

This week, take some time with each element of Aaron’s blessing over the Israelites.  Who in your life has blessed you?  How?  Who has “kept” you? How?

Who in your life has “let their face shine upon you”?  What effect did that have on you?  Who has been gracious to you?  Summon up and savor the memory.

Who has looked upon you kindly?  Can you think of one occasion from recently and one from long ago?

Who has given you peace?  Remember and feel that peace again.

Now, go back through each element, and consider how you could offer those blessings to those you encounter.  Try to do so this week.  After all, we are celebrating the Word of God made flesh—what better way than to enflesh it ourselves?
