Here in the United States, we set aside the first Monday in September as Labor Day, a holiday created to honor the dignity of daily work.
This week, pay special attention to your experience of your daily work. What do you like about it? What do you find tedious or difficult about it? Does your work give you ways to express your faith or your core values? Does it challenge your faith or your core values?
If you are paid for your work, do you give a full, honest day’s work for your pay? If you are not paid for your work, are you satisfied with the kinds of rewards it brings you? Or do you feel undervalued and resentful?
Talk to God about your experience of daily work. Ask God to help you notice how God is present to you in that experience.
Try to think of one change you can make so that your work will better express your truest, best self, and one change you can make so that your work can better serve others. Then do those things.
