Paul asks the question, and then gives us his list—a list of actual experiences he had undergone, experiences sufficiently trying that one might find it hard to find God in them.
What’s your list? Take some time this week to write down, as honestly as you can, your own list of experiences you’ve had (or are having now) that seem to separate you from experiencing the love of God.
Check over your list each day for a couple of days, and note down anything you want to add or change.
Then read the whole passage in Romans: chapter 8, verses 35-39.
Try not to think about it too much. Just read it. Savor the words, just for the flow of them, whether or not they seem true to your experience.
For the rest of the week, keep going back and forth, looking over your list, and re-reading and savoring Paul’s words. Don’t try to figure stuff out—just watch, and see what happens. |
