Mark 2:3-5 (7th Sun Ord Time Yr B)

They came bringing to [Jesus] a paralytic carried by four men.  Unable to get near Jesus because of the crowd, they opened up the roof above him.  After they had broken through, they let down the mat on which the paralytic was lying.  When Jesus saw  their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Child, your sins are forgiven.”

Mark 2:3-5

Notice in this story from Mark’s gospel that it is when Jesus sees the faith of the friends who brought the paralytic that he is moved to heal the paralytic, first spiritually and then physically.

Take some time this week to reflect on the role that friends have played in your life.  How have friends been a channel of God’s grace—God’s love, healing, strength, wisdom—for you?

Think of concrete, specific instances in which you have somehow been touched by God through a friend.  How has your life been affected by that experience?

Give thanks to God for your friends, and give thanks to God for the blessings and challenges that have come to you through them.

Then, find some way to tell your friends what you’ve been noticing.  Perhaps a simple note or email:  “When _______ was going on in my life, and you did/said _________, I see now that God was touching me through you.  Thank you for being in my life.”
