A Ministry of Spiritual Growth and Deepening
Spiritual Direction

Individual Spiritual Direction

  • Do you long for a clearer, deeper sense of meaning and purpose in your life?
  • Do you wish that your faith or your spirituality and your daily life felt more integrated with each other?
  • Do you already pray, but hunger for something more?
  • Are you facing a decision, and struggling with how to make the right choice?
  • Would you like to learn to identify and trust your own experiences of God?

Spiritual direction can address questions like these and help you grow  in relationship with God, with yourself, with others, and with the world around you.

In spiritual direction, you meet regularly—usually once a month for an hour—with one who serves as a companion on the way, an extra set of eyes and ears to look at and listen to your experience with you.

Together you and your director identify more clearly how God is present in your life every day and in all its aspects.  Together you discover the God who has been waiting for you to draw nearer.

As you grow in awareness of God’s presence to you, you may discover your own desire to respond more freely and more generously to God’s love.  Your director can help you to notice what may be standing in the way of that free and generous response.  And your director can be one who will stand with you in your struggles or disappointments.

Along the way, your director may from time to time suggest resources from the tradition or ways of prayerfully attending to what you are noticing, leaving it ultimately up to you to decide how you will or will not incorporate any particular suggestion into your practice.

Spiritual direction is not the same as counseling or therapy, which deal with resolving problem areas in your life or your relationships.

Rather, spiritual direction is a tool—nothing more—for supporting you in deepening your relationship with God, and growing more fully into the person God created you to be.  As with any tool, there are times when it is useful, and times when some other tool may be more appropriate.

Individual spiritual direction is available by appointment.  Call (937) 222-2864 or email if you are interested.

In considering the stipend for each session, we offer several options to guide your choice. You may wish to reflect on what you pay for various other services and forms of self-care:  a haircut, an oil change, a massage, a manicure or pedicure, a movie, a teeth cleaning, a chiropractic adjustment, a dinner out. Or you may choose an amount from $15 to $60, depending on your means and your obligations.  Another guideline might be to reflect on what you are paid per hour for the work you do, and offer a stipend at that same rate.

Group Spiritual Direction

Write a report, meet a deadline, carpool a kid, keep a volunteer commitment—the tugs of other people’s needs and demands sometimes seem to pull us apart.  We lose our inner sense of who we really are, what really matters, and where we’re really going in our lives.

And yet, paradoxically, it is in the give and take of true community that we find wholeness and fullness.

That’s the power of group spiritual direction, a focused, intentional community supporting one another in seeking out and honoring the signs of God’s presence and action in our daily lives.  Could this be the right time for you to join a group of fellow journeyers facilitated by an experienced spiritual director?

From time to time, Corazón offers 6-week spiritual direction groups.  The cost is $45 for six sessions, scheduled every other week. Call (937) 222-2864 or email (address below) if you are interested.
