Retreats

Corazón Retreats

Have you ever felt frustrated, trying to talk with someone who keeps looking over your shoulder at a TV or some other distraction?  What a gift it is to experience that we have someone’s full attention!  We feel valued, connected, invited to open up and go deeper.

That’s what a retreat can be--a time of focused attention, when we turn away from all the distractions and busyness of our daily lives precisely so that we can see our lives whole, connect again with the values at the core of who we are, and open ourselves up to God’s touch.

There are different kinds of retreats, but they all have in common that quality of seeking singleness of heart:  “For this time, in this place, I will try to give my attention completely to what really matters.”

A retreat can also be an experience of Sabbath time, a time of rest and refreshment, a time to step back and savor and appreciate.

Spiritual direction during a retreat can help you notice the movements of God’s Spirit within you and suggest ways of praying that might enable you to open more fully to the Spirit’s action.

Individual Retreats

Corazón offers a welcoming, quiet, expansive space for an individual retreatant seeking an unstructured “day away.”

Because we believe that we are each one body/soul/spirit whole, Corazón’s space comes equipped with materials to support prayer that engages all aspects of our being—books, music, art materials, furniture and cushions to allow for different postures in prayer, and other resources to engage the mind, the heart, and the bodyself.

The entire space is reserved for and available to the retreatant; there are no dual bookings.

There is no smoking permitted on the premises at any time. Regrettably, owing to the mid-nineteenth-century architecture and the constraints of being in a designated historic district, Corazón’s facility is NOT handicapped-accessible.

While there is no food service offered, retreatants have the use of full kitchen facilities, including stove, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, and disposer.  There are also many nearby options for prepared food.

Booking a day retreat reserves the space from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The cost is $40 for an individual.

An overnight retreat reserves the space for 24 hours, either 5 p.m. one day to 5 p.m. the next day, or 9 a.m. one day to 9 a.m. the next day.  The cost is $65.  Multiple-night retreats may also be scheduled, subject to availability of the space.

There is an additional stipend for spiritual direction during the retreat.

Individuals who have scheduled a one-day or one-night retreat must give notice of cancellation 24 hours before their scheduled arrival. Individuals who have scheduled a multi-night overnight retreat must give notice of cancellation 5 working days before their scheduled arrival. If this notice is not given, you may be billed for the time you reserved.

Call (937) 222-2864 or email to schedule your retreat.

Group Retreats

Could your staff use some time away from the workplace to reflect and pray together, and re-connect with the Source of their call and of the strength to live it out?

Would your faithsharing group, RENEW group, Ultreya group, small church community, or Bible-study group benefit from a chance to spend an extended time together with each other and with the Lord?

Or perhaps you are blessed with friends or family members who are spiritual companions for you as well, and would appreciate a time and a place to explore that aspect of your relationship.

Consider a group retreat day at Corazón.  Your group will have uninterrupted use of Corazón’s space with its resources for holistic prayer, without the distraction of other groups or programs meeting in adjacent rooms.

While there is no food service offered, your group will have the use of full kitchen facilities, including stove, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, and disposer.  There are also many nearby options for prepared food.

There is no smoking permitted on the premises at any time. Regrettably, owing to the mid-nineteenth-century architecture and the constraints of being in a designated historic district, Corazón’s facility is NOT handicapped-accessible.

You may choose an unstructured group “day away” or a program you would design and present yourselves.  Or you may engage Corazón director Margot LeBreton Merz to design and lead the day for you, working with themes of your choosing.

Booking a Corazón group retreat reserves the space from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The cost for group use of the space is $65.  The stipend for engaging Margot Merz to design and lead your retreat day is $300.

Groups who have scheduled a day retreat NOT including leadership/facilitation by Margot Merz, must give notice of cancellation 24 hours before their scheduled arrival; groups who have scheduled a day retreat which Margot Merz is to plan and lead must give notice of cancellation 5 working days before their scheduled arrival. If notice is not given, you may be billed for the use of space and a pro-rated share of the facilitation fee.

Call (937) 222-2864 or email to schedule your group’s retreat.

Retreat in Daily Life:
An Experience of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius

The Retreat in Daily Life is an extended, individually-guided experience of praying the story of God in Christ as it emerges in one’s own experience. Retreatants commit to an hour a day of prayer following the pattern laid out in the Spiritual Exercises, plus weekly or bi-weekly spiritual direction throughout the course of the retreat (approximately six to nine months).

When the retreat is begun in the late summer or fall, the material presented for prayer will tend to correspond to the rhythms of the Church’s liturgical year. But since the retreat is individually scheduled, you may choose to start at any time of the year.

There is no cost beyond the stipends for the spiritual direction sessions. We suggest several ways you might consider what stipend to offer. You might choose an amount from $15 to $60, depending on your means and your obligations.  Or, to guide your choice, you may wish to reflect on what you pay for various other services and forms of self-care:  a haircut, an oil change, a massage, a manicure or pedicure, a movie, a teeth cleaning, a chiropractic adjustment, a dinner out. Another guideline might be to note how much you are paid per hour for the work you do, and offer that same rate as your stipend.

Call (937) 222-2864 or email if you are interested.
